Writing is 35% of Israelis' work questions to ChatGPT

From April to June 2026 about 24.5% of the messages users in Israel sent to ChatGPT were classified as work-related. The data, published by OpenAI, rests on 300,000 messages a month from personal accounts only, so company accounts are not counted. For a freelancer or a small business owner, who usually works in a personal account, these are exactly the messages that were measured.

We broke Israelis' work messages down by topic and compared July to September 2024 with April to June 2026.

Topic Israel, 2024 Israel, 2026 World, 2026
Writing and editing 30.6% 34.9% 38.4%
Practical guidance 22.0% 28.4% 26.3%
Seeking information 9.0% 12.2% 11.2%
Technical help and coding 32.7% 8.8% 7.7%
Images and media 2.5% 7.7% 9.3%
Personal talk 0.3% 3.0% 2.4%
Other 2.7% 5.0% 4.7%

Writing overtook coding

In 2024 coding was the leading topic among work questions from Israel, at a third of messages. In 2026 it was under 9%. The data excludes Codex and company accounts, and developers who moved to them dropped out of the count. What stays in the personal account is mostly writing: emails to clients, price quotes, posts, translations and rewording.

Practical guidance rose from 22% to 28.4%, and here Israelis ask more than the global average. These are questions like how to price a job, how to answer a client who has not paid, or what to check before signing a contract.

Images and media tripled, from 2.5% to 7.7%, since images can be created and edited inside the chat. Worldwide the figure is higher, at 9.3%.

Fewer questions, steady tasks

OpenAI sorts every message into one of three intents. Asking is a request for information or advice. Doing is a request for the model to produce something, such as an email, a table or code. Expressing is a message that asks for neither, such as sharing an opinion or a feeling.

In work messages from Israel the share of doing held steady, 43.7% in 2024 and 43.6% in 2026. Asking fell from 44.5% to 36.6%, and expressing rose from 11.7% to 19.8%. Worldwide doing fell from 52.8% to 46.4%, and expressing almost doubled, from 9.8% to 19.9%.

The breakdown by plan exists only at the global level. From April to June 2026, 26% of messages on the free plan were work-related. On Go it was 42%, on Plus about 47% and on Pro about 62%. People who pay for the plan mostly do it for work, and the free account is used mostly for personal questions.

Where ChatGPT stops

ChatGPT can write an email to a client, but it does not know what that client owes you. You can ask it how VAT is calculated, but it cannot see the business's invoices. That is what Slate's AI features are for, working on the books themselves: a question like "how much did I earn this quarter" is answered from the documents you issued, a photographed receipt becomes a draft expense with supplier, amount and VAT, and one sentence becomes a draft invoice. Every draft waits for your approval.
