Check an Israeli business, company or ID number

A nine-digit number printed on an invoice should be structurally valid. The check here verifies the length and the check digit, and catches typing errors before they enter your books.

The check runs in your browser. The number is never sent to a server and never stored.

You can paste with dashes or spaces; they are stripped automatically.

What this check does

Israeli identifiers, both personal ID numbers and company numbers, are built on nine digits where the last one is a check digit. That digit is computed from the first eight, so a number with a typing error will almost always fail the check.

It is a structural check only. It catches a swapped digit, two transposed digits, or a number that is too short, which covers most of the errors that actually happen when copying customer details from an invoice you received.

What it does not do

It does not check that the number exists, that the business is active, that it is registered as a licensed dealer, or that it holds a valid bookkeeping certificate. Those live in Tax Authority and Registrar of Companies records and cannot be verified locally.

A number that passes here is a number that looks valid. It does not necessarily belong to whoever is named on the invoice.

Why it matters on an invoice

The business number is one of the fields that must appear on a tax invoice, and it is what ties the document to the business in both sides' books. A wrong number on an incoming invoice can complicate an input VAT deduction and force you to ask the supplier for a corrected document.

For a tax invoice above the threshold, an allocation number also comes into play, and that is verified against the Tax Authority rather than locally. The two do not substitute for each other.

What to check on an invoice you receive

That the business name and number appear and match what you know about the supplier. That the document type really is a tax invoice and not a transaction invoice. That the VAT is calculated correctly. And that above the threshold an allocation number is present. The full explanation of what supports a deduction is in the input VAT guide.
